The Wheathampstead Foodbank is an initiative of Wheathampstead Friends in partnership with St Albans and District Foodbank.
It is based at
Hilldyke Community Centre, 17 Hilldyke Road, Wheathampstead, AL4 8TU
and is open every Thursday between 12:30 and 14:30
Why do we exist?
1 IN 5 PEOPLE ARE LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE IN THE UK
Today in Wheathampstead, there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis—redundancy, benefit changes or delay or even an unexpected bill—can mean going hungry.
Every day, parents skip meals to feed their children; some are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating.
Wheathampstead Foodbank provides emergency food and support for local people in crisis.
Who and Where we are:
The Wheathampstead Foodbank is run by a group of volunteers under the auspices of the Wheathampstead Friends. Its purpose is to show care in action for people in crisis in our area.
We are open every Thursday at the Hilldyke Community Centre from 12:30 – 14:30.
Like most foodbanks, to keep going it needs to be topped up. If you are able, please donate some food—perhaps when you are shopping, look for “Buy one get one free” and give us the ‘free’ one!
Donations of food can be made to the Foodbank using the box in St Helen’s Church labelled ‘Foodbank’.
If you know of someone who may be in need of the Wheathampstead Foodbank, please phone Anne Mallinson on 07790 237760.
Thank you for your generosity.
HOW THE FOODBANK WORKS
Non-perishable food is donated by the public.
Volunteers at St Albans and District storage site sort and pack the food into parcels.
Frontline Care professionals such as the Children’s Centre, CAB and Manor Pharmacy give Food Vouchers to people in crisis.
Food bank vouchers are exchanged for approximately three days food at the Foodbank.
Food vouchers can be obtained from the Children’s Centre, the CAB, Manor Pharmacy or, initially, at the Foodbank at the Hilldyke Centre from
12:30 to 2:30 pm. Every Thursday.
The service is also available for emergencies throughout the week from the co-ordinator, Anne Mallinson on 07790 237760.
